Other comments

Certain preparations reduce NAD+ as well as NADP+.

6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase catalyzes the third step in the hexose monophosphate shunt, the decarboxylating reduction of 6-phosphogluconate in to ribulose 5-phosphate.

Prokaryotic and eukaryotic 6PGD are proteins of about 470 amino acids whose sequence are highly conserved. As a signature pattern, it was selected a region which has been shown, from studies of the sheep 6PGD tertiary structure, to be involved in the binding of 6-phosphogluconate.
