Other comments

It's a zinc protein that acts on primary or secondary alcohols or hemiacetals. The animal enzyme (but not the yeasts' one) acts also on cyclic secondary alcohols.

Currently three, structurally and catalytically, different types of alcohol dehydrogenases are known: zinc-containing long chain; short chain and (insect-type; iron-containing alcohol dehydrogenases.
