Other comments

29-MOS is a suicide inhibitor, in which 20-methyl group of (S)-2,3-Epoxysqualene is replaced to 20-vinyl group. This group alkylates aspartate residue of the enzyme. Reaction proceeds via protosteryl cation intermediate.

Evolutionary related to enzymes that catalyze mechanistically related reactions which involve the highly complex cyclic rearrangement of squalene or its 2,3 oxide. These enzymes are proteins of about 70 to 85 Kd. As a signature pattern, it has been selected a highly conserved region which is rich in aromatic residues and which is located in the C-terminal section.
